How-to Build a Reinforced Retaining Wall
Yes, I need stamped engineering, now what?
- Determine the area of construction and type of wall. Go to the Download Pros Guide page and select the HTS guide based on the block you will be using.
- Download and print the "Request for Stamped Engineering Form" and fill out the general information.
- If there will be a slope at the top of the wall or bottom of wall, use the "Slope Angle Determination Guidelines". (Found in SECTION 1: PLANNING.)
- Take photos of the retaining wall area.
- Sketch a plan of the project using the "Sketching Instruction" and graph paper. (Found in SECTION 1: PLANNING.) Professional plans/prints should be used if available. Here is a checklist of what your local building department may be looking for in your plan.
- For soil information, you will need a recent soil report or to collect a soil sampling (directions can be found in SECTION1: PLANNING).
- Put your plan sketch, photos, soil report/sample and completed "Request for Stamped Engineering Form" in the mail to HTS or when possible, email electronically (contact info is on request form or online).
- Once received, a HTS representative will contact you. Cost for stamped engineering is $495 per location (can have multiple walls). Turnaround time is approximately 5 days after ALL materials have been received and approved. After you receive everything, you can proceed to building a retaining wall.
